About Me:
I was born in S. Korea, raised in S. California, and have lived in the San Francisco Bay area in my recent past and love it here. It definitely feels like home. I studied comparative religion, comparative mysticism, and psychology in undergrad at UC Santa Barbara. Since then I've traveled to Europe and Asia primarily exploring and studying meditation and cross-cultural spirituality and psychology. I completed my MA and PhD in psychology at The Institute of Transpersonal Psychology. I conducted my doctoral research on mindfulness and well-being in long-term practitioners and teachers. I'm currently a post-doc psych assistant at The Wisdom Therapy Institute where I work with individuals, couples, and groups, both locally and through distance via telephone and/or skype technology. I have a particular interest in working with people whose life centers around their psychological and spiritual growth.
My primary interests and life work revolve around the evolution and revolution of science, psychology, and spirituality. Scientifically, I'm interested in the expansion of reductionistic science to include wider and deeper forms of inquiry and evidence, and the integration of previously seperate fields. Psychologically and spiritually, I'd like to see more research on psychological and spiritual transformation and development as well as spiritual teachers and organizations taking this research into account when working with people and in what they design. I like what is being done with the Mind and Life Institute, Institute of Noetic Sciences, and Integral Institute among others. I helped out on the Cultivating Emotional Balance project sponsored by The Mind and Life Institute. I also mentor people in a type of psycho-spiritual work called Waking Down in Mutuality.
My other interests include art, sports, psychotherapy, play, fringe culture and spending time with my girlfriend and community of conscious friends. I'm also interested in building local community as a form of social activism based on my experiences taking a Buddhist Economics course with Sri Lankan (Ceylon) social activist A. T. Ariyaratne, who founded the Sarvodaya movement.
